The historic Newport Library was founded in 1889 and housed in the old Baptist Church.  Newport is very proud of its library and because of its long history and distinguished service to the community, it strives to keep the library beautiful and a place that is enjoyable for its patrons.

Services Available at the Library

Several services are offered at the Library and Community Center. The Library is equipped with three computers and three laptops, printer, and copy and fax machines for public use. The Library also has wireless access for personal laptops, phones, and tablets. Residents may also check out the Library to use as a meeting room. The Library also has several books for sale. Finally, the Library has several books, magazines and games for residents to enjoy!

As of January 1, 2012, the City of Newport is now providing the oversight and management of the Newport Library. As such, residents will now be reserving books and other items online at www.co.washington.mn.us/library. Once a resident's items are ready, they may pick them up and drop them off at City Hall, located at 596 7th Avenue. The City will be keeping the above hours throughout January 2012. Check back for revised hours.
